Overview of Workshop:
Drawing upon twenty-four years of experience in the field, as Executive Director of the H.O.P.E. Unit Foundation and as a researcher, Dr. Stolzman will be sharing what she has learned about helping people through the stages of loss and recovery.
Dr. Stolzman will describe how she helps the grieving person imagine that they will have a life again. She will describe the normal feelings and emotional issues that people experience as they move from mourning back to life, including feelings of disloyalty to the deceased. She will demonstrate how hypnosis can be part of the process of grieving, healing, recovery and moving back into life.

About the Presenter:
Drawn to the healing aspect of grief counseling, Los Angeles-based Dr. Marilyn Stolzman became a professional counselor specializing in bereavement. After acquiring her L.M.F.T. license, hospice training, and an internship at the American Cancer Society, Dr. Stolzman was hired and trained by the head of social services at Encino Hospital in Southern California to lead their hospital's bereavement program; at that point, she had been a practicing therapist for a year following her group work major at Columbia University in the graduate school of social work.
Most recently, Dr. Stolzman created and directs the Southern California bereavement and transition support program, H.O.P.E. UNIT FOUNDATION, which offers a life-affirming two-year support group program. This experience became the basis for two recent books: THE HEALING POWER OF GRIEF: The Journey Through Loss to Life and Laughter and THE HEALING POWER OF LOVE: Transcending the Loss of a Spouse to New Love, both co-authored with Gloria Lintermans.
Dr. Stolzman is in private practice in Woodland Hills, CA, specializing in creative visualization and hypnotherapy with individuals, groups and families, especially those dealing with bereavement or life-threatening illness. She can be reached at mstolzman@aol.com.
